The 48-Hour Overland Express from Veracruz to Texas
Over 90% of all fresh limes consumed in North American supermarkets and restaurants originate from a single growing hub in Martínez de la Torre, Veracruz. Picked at sunrise, washed and food-grade carnauba waxed at midday, and loaded into refrigerated tractor-trailers by dusk, they travel 950 miles up Highway 180 to cross the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge within 36 to 48 hours.
